Tae Kwon Do Necklace: our Kanji Tae Kwon Do necklace celebrates the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do.
Tae means ‘Kick’, Kwon means ‘Punch’ and Do means ‘path or way’. Together Tae Kwon Do translates as the ‘Way (Art) of Kicking and Punching’.

Unlike many of the other Martial Arts, Tae Kwon Do is relatively new and was not recognized as it’s own form of martial art until 1957. The Tae Kwon Do has it’s origins in Karate which was taught to the Korean military in the early 1950’s.

The Korean influence created a style of style of Karate that was so different from Japanese Karate that it soon became it’s own Martial Art. Tae Kwon Do has more emphasis on high, jumping and spinning kicks than traditional Karate.

Known for it’s spectacular kicks Tae Kwon Do became a full status olympic sport making it only the second Martial Art to attain such a status. (Judo is the other Martial Art given official Olympic status.)

All of our necklaces are separately crafted and hand painted – each necklace is it’s own minature piece of art. No two Kanji necklaces are alike – each is as different as the person that wears them.

About Kanji Necklaces

Our Kanji necklaces feature a 2mm round leather cord with a unique interlocking clasp – easy to connect and disconnect but secure. The hand painted Kanji pendants are specifically made for us, you will not find them anywhere else – size: 45mm (1.75 inches) and 15mm (1/2 inch) wide.

The origins of Kanji and Kanji calligraphy date back to the 3rd century when fleeing Buddhist monks from China found sanctuary in Japan. Free from persecution, the monks developed a highly creative form of Kanji art which we see today.

Many eastern traditional spiritual leaders believe that through Kanji the inner Ki (Chi) is both re-affirmed and strengthened. As in yoga and the martial arts, connecting with the inner self brings focus – focus brings peace of mind, body and spirit.

Each Kanji symbol is representative of a persons inner Ki/Chi (spirit). Express and strengthen your own inner Ki/Chi with our unique handmade uisex Kanji pendant necklaces.
